The Ice Cream Dress

More Wedding Bells this weekend!  This time it was my lovely friends Gwen and Frank who tied the knot- and I couldn't be happier for the two.  They had a really nice gathering in a Banquet Room overlooking the Wilmington Riverfront.  Boy, was it hot that day.  About 95 degrees, and probably couldn't be more humid- but it was plenty cool inside- and we had a great time celebrating the occasion!
I was SO happy I received this dress in time for the weekend.  This incredible dress is part of Caitlin Shearer's hand-drawn collection of illustration dresses.  As an aspiring dress designer myself- I have adored Caitlin's dresses from afar for quite some time now.  I finally decided it was time to save my pennies and invest in my own piece of her wearable art.  I instantly fell in love with this delicate print of ice cream cones and sundaes- could it get any cuter?
Outfit Details:  Dress:  Caitlin Shearer, Necklace:  Clothes in the Past Lane, Headband: Claire's, Shoes:  Forever 21, Clutch: Vintage
I kept the look pastel and paired the dress with my favorite vintage clutch- a rainbow of pastels!  My rhinestone necklace from Clothes in the Past Lane was just the right detail to set off the blue and green tones in the dress and really make it "pop".  The vintage inspired silhouette of this dress is my favorite.  The shape is so easy to wear, figure flattering and comfortable.

My hubby Daniel wore one of his Nicole Rae Styer embellished button-ups and a vintage tie we thrifted a while back.  I love how he puts things together :).

We had a lazy day the rest of Saturday after the wedding and just relaxed, made dinner and watched some Netflix.  Sunday was a great day of browsing in West Chester, we found a few fun vintage pins and earrings and a $16 vintage dress that I'll be working on hemming later today.  This week I will be focusing my attention back on my own sewing projects.  Getting my moth fabric ready for it's first dress pattern, and hopefully an actual dress will be finished within a few weeks.  I still have a lot of work to do- but I am inching closer and closer to my dream becoming reality!  Thanks for reading :)

xo, Alyssa

  3. I love that dress! Novelty prints are the best. :) Ugh...I can't stand the 90 degree and humid weather either. So gross! It seems to be cooling down a little, though. But Netflix and relaxation sounds nice! I've been watching It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia lately on there.

  4. That dress <3 Seriously. I should invest too.. I always drool over things I want but never make the move on them. I absolutely love weddings and one of my old friends from college got married this weekend too! It was in Ohio so I couldn't make it. Boo. I must say, your boy has the same kind of quirky style that you do. I like how he paired that shirt and tie too! Have an awesome week girlie.

  7. Wow, you and the husband both have great style! I wish I could get my hubby to dress up a bit, haha. I love your dress! I'm totally checking out her shop now too, really interesting, gorgeous pieces. That cut of dress is super flattering on everyone, you're right. Glad you had fun at the wedding! I haven't been to any weddings yet this summer, but there are finally some coming up starting in August and I can't wait. I love them :)

  11. Marriages eeeeeverywhere!

This ice cream dress of yours is way too darn cute. I love prints that are more like little works of art on them... if that makes sense? haha like it's not a repeating print, just looks more like someone took watercolors to it and painted some icecreams. It's so so darling! And it looks nice to the touch, too.

And oh, Alyssa! Your comment made me smile so. :D The fact that you wanted to start following me after I posted something artsy (and not an outfit, gasp?!) gave me fuzzy feelings. YOU SWEET THING, YOU. That ice cream dress is not even as sweet as you. I remember when you did all those drawings of bugs and such since you wanted to draw something every day for a month (? I think it was a month) and that was something super incredible. It's nice to have an artsy friend out there, ehehe. :) <3 <3

  15. My two favorite things in this world are dresses and ice cream, so this combination of the two is irresistible to me! The shape is absolutely darling too. I'm sure you had a lovely time at the wedding. You and your husband are such a sharp-dressed couple!

May the Force be with you.
