She's a Free and Gentle Flower, Growing Wild

Ah, easy like a Sunday morning.  This weekend has been pretty nice; a full weekend off to start, which is always wonderful.  I got my first dress pattern EVER pinned this week and Daniel's grandmother is going to help me cut it out and get it started.  I am beyond excited.  This will finally give me the instruction I need to get started on making dresses and skirts out of my own fabric.  I've made a mint version of my moth print and I am very happy with it.  I have ordered the pink version in an organic cotton sateen (such a beautiful and quality fabric) and eagerly await it's arrival.  After it comes in I will start working on a dress, pronto!  For now though, I wanted to post an outfit featuring one of my favorite vintage accessories- enamel flower pins!  Every flea market and antique mall I explore- I am scouring and hunting down these bold and colorful pins.  They add so much "pop" to an outfit, and really give it that extra touch of fun and retro.
This dress totally looks vintage but it's actually from ASOS.  I found it last summer and kept putting off purchasing it and then Daniel gave it to me for Christmas (so sweet, haha).  By then it was ridiculously on sale so it was probably good that I waited.  It is hard to see, but it actually has small cut outs in the front and in the back- just the right amount without being too revealing.  The pattern is very reminiscent of the flower power 60s and the fabric is nice and light, perfect for Summer.  I am so glad I can finally wear it!

Delaware is having quite the weather right now.  One day it's pouring down rain, the next it's perfectly sunny and clear- and then the next it is as humid as anything.  Hoping that today is a "sunny and clear" day (can never get enough of those).  For now though- I am happy enough that Summer is approaching; along with pool days, light and bright dresses and the sun on my face <3

Dress: ASOS, Earrings, Necklace, and Pin: Vintage, Ring and Bracelet: Clothes in the Past Lane, Headband: Claire's

I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing day. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! <3

  8. so cute! that dress is so cute on you, and that pin - what an awesome find! :) It finally started to get sunny and warm over here, too, and I'm starting to realize: I don't know how to dress for nice days! haha. I'm so used to the cold & grey, so it's hard to get dressed for sun, haha.

I'm SO excited to see your fabric made into stuff!!!! :) how super exciting :)

  9. We're getting the same weather--but yeah, like you said, it's summer so it's a-ok! At least we don't have to walk around campus or something in all the rain and muck. ;)

I loooove that dress on you! Sometimes I'll see a bright colored dress in a store and automatically think, "I bet Alyssa would totally wear that." Haha! It's funny how we relate certain pieces to people.

  13. A gal can never have enough vintage enamel pins :-) Another gorgeous print on your dress..and that floral crown, gah! Can't wait to see the dresses you create. I used to sew myself clothing all the time as a kid and somehow got away from it...I would love to be able to pick it back up again.

  18. Yes! sewing madness to ensue. I have tons of fabric and have just been practicing little things. i almost wanna just go for it. I mean who cares if I mess it up?! Can't wait to see the amazingness that that moth dress will be! I use to have tons of those brooches and somehow lost quite a bit of them moving from here to there. I always look for them as well. They're the best.
As per always.. you look gorgeous. I saw the slits and thought I was going crazy.
