Orange Creamsicle and Blueberry polka dots-

This is the first weekend in a long time that Daniel and I haven't had any "official plans", so that actually made it pretty exciting.  We made an impromtu visit to Philly yesterday to visit some of my favorite shops, and I really lucked out.  I had grand plans to take a ton of photos of our little journey, but unfortunately I forgot to load my camera with my SD card so I had to take these pictures after we got home.  I found this amazing vintage flannel cape at "Vagabond" on North Street.  It was love at first site... I know it  doesn't really match the outfit underneath it, but I actually thought that made it more fun and livened it up a bit.  I also got this amazing pink and yellow aztec dress that I actually discovered this past summer- and it was sitting on the sale rack in my size- half off! Good things come to those who wait ;)
I had so much fun wearing around my floral crown, it's sort of my way to "rebel" against the chilly weather (come on Spring, where did you go??).  And this week was a little crazy and a bit of a reawakening for me personally.  I took a look inward and realized that I felt a little stifled, like I was holding back parts of myself.   So this weekend I just went all out, wore exactly what I wanted to; and didn't worry about what other people thought :)

Outfit Details:  Headband:  H&M, Cape:  Vagabond, vintage Necklace:  Clothes in the Past Lane
Top & Pants: Forever 21
This weekend I have been working on some new pieces for my jewelry collection, wooden moth and butterfly necklaces made from vintage illustrations.  I've been taking the wooden pendants and drilling holes in them with my new "drill master" kit.  I am not the best with tools so it was a little intimidating at first but I think I've gotten the hang of it.  Later we will be picking up chains so I can make them into necklaces, I can't wait to post the finished products!!
Oh, I am just so hoping for spring to come back.  The cold weather has really taken a toll on me.  My skin is dry and itchy, I'm tired of layering, and I miss the sunshine.  I am hoping that it will only take another week to get to the REAL spring weather.  But until then, I will continue to dress in my bright sunny colors, they make me smile and they remind me that sunnier days are ahead!  And flowers, oh I can not wait to see all the beautiful flowers come back!  I love when the colors of nature return :)
I hope you are all having a lovely weekend,

Happy Sunday!
xo, Alyssa

  1. You have the cutest way of rebelling--that flower crown is so very cute! I've always wanted to make one, because I see fashion editorials with them and they seem to go with so many things. And they're just plain awesome!

Your poncho is quite amazing, and the plaid pattern on it, gah! Such a beautiful array of colors. I'm glad your impromptu trip was more than successful!

    1. Hey Steph! I guess I will give credit to my awesome lipstick. It is all natural, gluten free and vegan and made by Gabriel cosmetics (from Wholefoods) in Matte Rose. It is a beautiful color and I am sensitive to chemicals and fragrances so it is a God-send! Thank you for the sweet comment.

  5. I have a tartan cape too, whenever I wear it I feel kinda magical. I also like to swoosh it around when no one is looking!

  6. You have got to be one of the most beautiful people I've ever seen. Everything about you is so bright and happy! I love the cape with this, actually. I think it was a great contrast of prints and colors and made the outfit so unique and interesting. Glad you had a great impromptu weekend! Sometimes one just needs that :) Plus, that creamy, dreamy top is THE BEST. Seriously :)

    1. Katie, that is certainly a very flattering comment. It's hard to receive such a flattering comment properly so I will just thank you and that you are incredibly sweet to say so...I only wish I could see myself the same way! I hope you've been having a fabulous week! :)

  9. Love this one! I'm always sort of jealous of girls who look so awesome in skinny pants. I don't like the way I look.. these look amazing on you though! Also, don't ever feel stifled! You do you.. how can anyone look down on you for that?! :)

    1. Aw Pati, you could totally pull off skinny pants. For the longest time I didn't think I could either, but I found that if I pick the right ones I feel much more comfortable in them. And patterned pants are so much fun!! And thank you Pati :) Some recent circumstances made me feel as if I had to take a step back and tone myself down, but I have come out on top declaring that I will be myself!!! :)

  10. First of all, the plaid cape you found is AMAZING, I love it! I didn't think the outfit could even get any better, but I also love the orange top with the blue beneath, and your revelation to just wear what YOU want is something I truly believe in! You seriously rock everything I have seen you wear here so far :)
Glad you had a good weekend!

    1. Thank you Hannah :) I decided NO MORE holding back. Sometimes I have that little voice in my head that says "you'll get odd looks, you'll never be accepted in that" and I decided not to listen to that when it creeps up. I always persist in being myself but sometimes I tempted to "tone things down" to fit in. No longer! haha :)

  13. Alyssa, oh goodness, your comment was ever so sweet and darling. :( <3 It literally made me, "Awww" out loud. The fact that you came from the same spot I did--losing weight and trying to maintain and worrying about that--makes me feel a ton better that I'm not alone (though the fact that we have to worry so much about maintaining is a bit lame, isn't it? hah! we really shouldn't be so hard on ourselves, but like you said, easier said than done). And I don't think you're that much of an outsider, either, hehehe. You're a lovely friend, you are, and I am so glad to have met such an amazing person as yourself. <3

  18. Oh my!

What an outfit! I'm a big fan of bright colours. And the crown is just stunning.

You really do suit skinny trousers, I've purchased my first one this week by Topshop. It'd be the first time in a long time where I'll be ditching my tights and leggings, ha!

    1. Hi there Halima! That's such a nice compliment, thanks! I've actually always been self-concious in pants because the curviest part of me is in my butt and thighs, haha. I never thought I could pull them off before, but I am slowly finding ways to style them and they're growing on me!

  22. I know I'm late seeing this post but I just love the colors and patterns here. I always love your colorful, pattern-filled outfits though. Your polka dot trousers are adorable. I really wanted the black pair of those same pants, but was too scared to buy them online in case they didn't fit! I couldn't find them at the store either! Sad times. These look wonderful on you though and I think your peachy-colored top contrasts with them so perfectly.
